Default Testudo hermanni hermanni

Are these the smallest of the Hermann's available? I did a college course on animal care and they had 2 males of about 16 year old at the time, they where quite small hermanns I would like to find one like them.

they where mostly yellow with black patch's from what I remember.

They are available. I have some and plenty of others here too. There is several breeders here on the forum who breed them.

Yes the hermanni hermanni is normally the smallest of the sub species, especially the males. The females can get to quite a size but of course it varies a lot too.

They can be hard to track down at times but if you were looking for a juvenile male there is a good chance of getting one if you are prepared to hunt around for a while and travel to get it.

And here is a photo of one of my males hermannis. This is taken under T5 lighting only. which should give a good colour rendering that is similar to how the tortoise would appear under good, but not sunny, light outdoors. I cleaned him up for this shot, but just with water and then dried him. Photos taken of these tortoises when they are wet are very vibrant and shiny.

His name is Beth.
