Sorry but I need some more advise ?
my 2 eggs are now in a home made incubator which is working well. However I am having difficulty upping the humidity without upping the tempreture.
I have added another water container but not vertain that's working.
T have all purchased a thermometer/hydrometer but I cannoy fathom out how to get the correct readings. It gives me different readings when I switch from in/out. The instructions are useless

The humidity is created by the surface area of the water so your container needs to be shallow but wide.
If your temp/humidity gauge has an in/out switch then the 'in' reading is taken from the probe and the 'out' reading is taken from the devise itself most likely, hope this helps.

Can you post a link to the hygrometer you got Sue?
It may help if you cant raise the humidity to add a sponge to your container, as this will increase surface area & hold more water for you

Sorry to be such a Numpty!
The humidity at the moment is 54 o/o, I did put another pot of water in last night but I have a sponge that I can use.

The humidity needs to be 75/80%, or they just won't servive

If the heating appliance for the incubator is on the top try raising the water dishes closer to the heating element as this can raise the humidity as well. Along with the other advice as well.
