Great pictures Neil
The Leopards would be a new subspecies when named. They actually get bigger than Stigmochelys pardalis pardalis. They are found at the Northern limits of the range in Ethopia, Somalia, Djibouti and northeastern Kenya.

About the Asian brown tortoise You should definately tell him he needs to keep him much wetter. He should be literally dripping wet and never that dry. He'll do much better if he is.

It's been around for a few years now. I try to use it whenever I can. They were actually thinking of changing it again and putting them in an established genus. Leopard tortoises closest living relatives are Tent tortoises , so close infact they were thinking of putting them in Psammobates, but decided that wasn't a good idea so left them on there own in Stigmochelys.
Now the genus Geochelone has just 2 species, G. elegans and G. platynota. Sulcatas are on their own in Centrochelys.

cheers dan for the information,

when i saw in the menu that you'd posted, i knew that you'd shed some more light on the subject!

i'll pass on the info about the burmese brown, the enclosure that they live in was damp, they share the same shed as his red and yellowfoots, but in seperate enclosures. i think (and i'm not sure) they are 6 months old. they are great little things, full of life!

Neil.

The red foot thread on here still says "geochelone carbonaria" so what's their correct name?

I'm afraid all my books/articles still class all species by the "old" terms.. Don't want them in my dissertation if they're out of date

All four species in South America are Chelonoidis
