Laraine your correct that some want the trophy aspect , all that I have spoken to want the personality and even grow them slowly to control thier size and look.
I`m not interested in people who need the biggest Sulcata and power feeds it. they can be controled and kept at about 2ft in size , happy and healthy too. if it wasn`t for people like you willing to take them on they would end up as trophies possibly. Cheers Gary |

they aren't destructive tortoises, not any more than any other tortoises. they don't bury and tunnel under the ground like everyone thinks they do, if they have a shed then that is what they percieve as their 'burrow'. then they are very less likely to dig. i know the guy that owns this group of sulcatas, he doesn't have pots of money but they do have the run of 1/2 the garden, some of these sulcatas even sleep outside in the summer under the stars. a sulcata is a good tortoise to have as long as you know the size they can get to. they are hardy and have great personalities. shame about the negative comments. these are exactly the kind of comments that puts people off from posting on here. awesome pictures of lovely sulcatas gary, i'm sorry people are giving you hassle for doing nothing wrong.

Not a problem Gary.
When they are small its not so bad keeping them, but when they are bigger need special shed/housing then the up keep on heating and fencing gets really high. They can also cause problems to humans if they take a dislike to you. Also the holes they dig, you really need a large field so they can do their thing. Fencing needs to be reinforced well. I know of one keeper in Scotland, who has taken on sulcatas that have grown to large, and although he loves them. He also says they shouldnt be bred or kept in the UK. He has had fences broken, has to watch when his children are around a very large male sulcata. And I know from TFriends that they have and do come up for rehoming. Along with leopards.
