Default Sterilizing Top Soil - In oven?

Hi,

I got some top soil, organic without fertilizers and I am sterilizing it in the oven on two pans on 350F. Is this necessary?

Thank you. I'm so new to all this! I couldn't find any sterilized soil w/o fertiliziers, perlite, etc.

You don't have to sterilize the topsoil for the tortoise's sake, but it can help eliminate the little fungus gnats that plague many of us in indoor soil for houseplants, tortoise enclosures, etc. (they don't really bother the tortoises, just us!).
