I've said no room at the inn a few times but then somehow found room again! I've still got certain ambitions for a few years time but I have to be a patient lady and wait until I get my tortoise room. Thankfully my daughter is a tort nutter like me and she's willingly given up a corner in her bedroom for torts and adores them so much. She's an incredible help and I know I can trust her 100% with them all, which is great if ever I'm not well. I've tried the same tack with my sons but they're all frogs and geckos.

Yes, ideally I'm hoping for all females and I'd like to either house them all together as one big creep or keep them as they are, the older 3 together and the 2 babies. Though I sometimes think Galileo will end up in with the babies as she just doesn't seem to grow much still. It's no great issue if there are boys or more than 1, I'll just revise my plans and have bunks like yours. I don't intend to breed them as I don't think I could let them go to other homes and we really don't have the space for lots of tables How are yours doing? xx

Like you, I couldn't breed them and let them go. I'm far too attached. Fingers crossed you have more females. Time will tell.. Mine are all really well thanks. I can't wait until it warms up and they can spend time outside again.

Last year I bought a turtle sand pit and filled it with top soil, it's ideal as I can cover it in the rain. I now have a cold frame and a house a bit like Suze has ready for their bigger enclosure and a big frame to go over the top. They'd never be out overnight as we sometimes have problems with rats and I'd worry too much about security. My plans to make it more permanent for next year include framing it all with decking boards and adding pad locks so no animal can get in or out, my garden is all slabbed so nothing can burrow in nor them out either. In my mind, I will keep the soil filled sand pit, they'll have the cold frame and some ramps into the house, all protected by the cage from birds/cats/Taz (my dog). Plus they can walk on the slabs and have a tray of water to soak/drink. When they're pretty much fully grown, definitely sexed, we will build a proper, permanent, safe enclosure. Sounds good in my head, it's the putting it into practice is the harder part.

I never leave mine out overnight either. We have anti-tunnel skirts around all the enclosures but even so, I like having them indoors, warm and secure overnight.
Like you, I'm home most of the time too so they get to spend a lot of time outside when the weather is warm. At the moment it's cold and wet and summer seems so far away! It's nice to make plans for the future. I'm sure they'll adore their permanent enclosure in years to come.
