Nebulising with Vicks or Eucaliptus oil
Just wondering, has anyone tried nebulising tortoises with Vicks or Eucaliptus oil? I read on another forum that someone used it for nebulising snakes when they had Rhinitis, but never heard it here about using it for tortoises.

Hi,
I wouldn't use either, they can both be irritating. Nebulisation with plain saline can help moisten the respiratory tract and aid aid clearance of respiratory secretions, if required. If an RI is suspected, then nebulisation with F10, and/or antibiotics, is an excellent way of delivering the agents into the resp tract (on discussion with your vet). Hope that's helpful John |

I have nebulised with F10 in the past too. My tortoises don't have RI at the moment; I was just curious because I read someone using it for snakes.

the only human medication I would ever use would be something suitable for tiny human babies and neither vick nor eucalyptus oil are suitable, a bit off track i know but I bath my dog in baby shampoo as it doesn't strip the oils from his coat. Most products for really young babies are very mild and I think there is a decongestant for babies but not sure which one.

Eucaliptus oil is terrible for me, gives me a sore throat when using for sinus problems as an inhalant. I cant think what a tortoise would feel:0(
Gave up trying to get rid of sinus problems this way, as it made me feel worse.
