urates gritty
one of my horsfields male just under five years old, has been really sluggish, asleep all day in his hide doesnt come out often. i get him out every day for a warm bath which he soaks in for about fifteen minutes he is not interested in his food, which at present because i cannot get these weed seeds to grow consists of florrette salad, water cress, chicory, dandlions and romaine lettuce. each meal has nutrobol one day and then limestone flour on the next.
today in his bath he passed some gritty urates then a kharki green poo. soon as he comes out the bath i put him under the basking light he just crawls back into his hide. the other two are more active and eating what ever i give them. the temps are 31 32 under hot spot and cool end 19 20 they are on soil sand mix with readigrass in hide. seven weeks ago they were all wormed with panacur for two weeks on the trot. sorry for the long thread but any advise would be great, i have read other horsfields are sluggish on different threads is this common. none of them where hibinated as we new we were moving so keep them awake but the move never happened so that did not disturb him. just made a few phone calls and the nearest vet with any tortoise experience is an hour and half away. |

Hi there, keep up the bathing if his urates were gritty, you're right, there have been few posts about horsfields lately, perhaps if you tried adding another light for a bit, a normal spotlight to up the temps a bit and brighten up the enclosure. Some torts respond well to a bit of additional light. Sorry I can't be of more help, but hopefully someone with more experience will be along soon
