Question Do tortoises need regular check ups?

I have a 3 year old Hermanns tortoise and was wondering if he needs to have like any regular check ups or anything?

Personally I dont get my tortoises checked.
But I know a lot of keepers on here do. Its a matter of choice.
Although if bought at a petshop, then its probably a wise idea to get them checked.

I think it is best before hibernation and worming is best done by a vet if you are a new owner

If you want your tortoise checked, you need a reptile/tortoise vet, as ordinary vets have little knowledge on reptiles. Unless they keep them themselves.
There is a list on this site I think of reputable tortoise vets.

I think any tort you first aquire no matter where its from (not every breeder is from shelled warriors and has as high a standard as they do) should have the once over, for your peace of mind if for no other reason.
Mine eat alot of bird pooh(sounds charming) throughout summer, there are alot of birds were i live and my torts literally race me to get to it first i`m not lying aswell, i`ve had many tugs of war with my stubborn torts trying to get it out of their mouths(yuck), lol.
This is the reason mine get checked yearly but i think most people dont have flocks of birds visiting their gardens like me so just get them checked the once upon first aquiring them and thats it until you feel yourself you`d like them to have another check, its instinct i think aswell, just go with what you feel is best.
