Default Humidity & flies!

I'm just wondering if those who keep tropicals find that because of the increased humidity (and spraying required) that they get little flies flying around the enclosure. I'm not sure if its the humidity that causes it. Even if substrate is regularly changed and spot cleaned daily they still appear. Is there any way to stop this? It doesn't seem to happen to the meds' enclosures!

I don't Alan - but contemplating!! I've noticed the flies in a few other tropical enclosures I've seen and just wondered if there was a way of avoiding it! I became addicted a while back now!

keeping any tropical species in open enclosures in the house can be quite a test, not just Flies, but also the correct level of humidity can disrupt a house. For this reason, years ago, my collection of tropical Chelonia and other Reptile/Amphibian species were sent to a dedicated Tropical house in the garden.
even so, with tropical temperatures, and humidity flying insects potentially an issue.
solution: A colony of free living African house Gecko's. along with Asian Tree frogs, these feed avidly on flies, spiders and other inverts that enter the house. That said, to maintain the healthy population, they also get ten boxes of crickets, mealworms, wax worms and Locust per week.

Think I'll stick with my meds Geomyda!! That said I've often thought about creating an environment comprising different species that were compatible. Maybe one day - seen it done successfully by a couple of people I know!

I used to get these with my Redfoots during the summer, I think a mixture of uneaten food in a very warm, damp habitat attracts them. I swatted most with one of those electric swatters.
