Megaray 160w distance questions
Hello all I have just sent my megaray 120w back because it was faulty and I decided to order the 160w instead because I’m getting a new table next week, which will be a lot bigger.
My question is; my current table is quite small 2 x 2 ft, my 2 Hermann’s are still small (5 months old) so I didn’t feel the need to get a big one to start off with, but will the 160w be too powerful for such a small table? I’m keeping the temp between 30-35c. If you look at links for the photos the temp is 36c and the distance from the face of the bulb to the shell is 18 inches, does this sound about right? Thanks in advance for any help. http://i48.tinypic.com/262b58m.jpg http://i45.tinypic.com/20hvkbd.jpg http://i46.tinypic.com/711gkh.jpg

I would think that 160w might be a little strong, maybe stick with the 120w MR. 160w might be too powerful for that size table and for such small torts. The sheer heat and glare of it might make it difficult to do the temp hot/cool end as its vast light when fixed on the stand and is raised to the min/max height (which would be significantly raised for that wattage) may mean that the tort would have no escape from the heat but there will be others along I am sure who can advise better on this question. If it were me, I would stick to 120w.xx

It might be okay for the 3 x 5, it's getting the height at the basking spot though, it still needs to be able to be raised high enough. not sure what that height is unfortunately

I wonder if those 160W lamps are any more reliable than the 120's?
As long as a shady retreat is available the 160 migth be a good bet.

I can't remember for sure but I kind of think it was in that email I had that they were more stable because of the UK voltage thing

The first bulb I had lasted around 18 months to 2 years, the next one I had went as soon as I put it in. Dazza changed it immediately, and this one is working brilliantly. I found the 100w was not enough in my enclosure. If i wanted the heat hot enough in the hot end, I had to have it quite close, but then the cool end would be too cold. I've found the 160 perfect.
