Default Anyone keep parrots?

I was out weed picking yesterday and this lady of course asked what I picked weeds for we got talking and she said she had a parrot it was 24 years old. It had recently become quite aggressive and her and her husband could no longer handle it. I told her I would ask to see if anyone had any ideas what it could be. Apparently when it smells chips it goes mental as it loves them !!

Mine is the same for anything potatoe or pasta. Could be down to a boredom issue or the need to mate if male .

Parrots are know to be 'one person birds' or to take a dislike to a gender. I've no idea why it would just turn against him. I'd also tell her to cut the chips out of the diet.

Not always a cert but usually in change of temp it's due to Boredem or frustration . No not always many never mate and are very happy . Maybe it's lack of something to stimulate and exite or something that has spooked him

if its suddenly changed behavior,it needs to be checked by an avian vet, with boredom issues it comes on gradually. Our charlie is 24 and never shown an interest in our female greys. Our old retired greys, are wild caught from africa and are at least 30 odd years old and mate all the time lucky for us and them all the eggs are now infertile.

I wonder if it hasn't had enough attention and handling from its owners and has started to get grumpy when handled x

Any parrot which suddenly gets aggresive, when previously has been well mannered and well handled is almost certainly feeling unwell and needs to see an avian vet pronto..... We were unlucky,a few years ago one of our greys, over 2 days started nipping us when she had never done it before, she stopped speaking so we knew something was wrong. When we took her to the vet she was diagnosed with aspergillosis and we had to have her pts after 2 weeks of treatment,it still hurts us so much, now we will not risk anything to do with our 6 greys.

Thanks for all your help, from what I gather it lives in the garage most of the time, if I meet her again I will tell her what you all suggest
