Perfect Hide
Hi guys/gals,
First post on the forum, love looking through and seeing all you ingenious tort lovers coming up with great ways to improve a torts enclosure, well I think I've found one! After setting up my new outdoor enclosure I needed a suitable hide, Mrs S is very picky and doesn't usually go into hides, but I struck gold in a roofing cap, it's great, perfect clearance, not too spacious or too small and can be filled with substrate for digging, only issue is digging her out every night so she can go back into her indoor enclosure I got mine from a roofer I know, but I'm sure you resourceful people will find somewhere that sells them, maybe online, I'm sure they won't be expensive. Anyway looking forward to posting more on here and getting to know you lovely folk! -Charles |

Hi there, do you mean this type of thing?
I got mine from B&Q at Livingston, I have 5 of them now but they only ever seem to have them in stock in 1's or 2's so I've had three trips to get the 5 of them. They are great because they hold the heat for a long time, they are really heavy so the torts can't move them easily (though sometimes two torts go in the same one and end up being able to move it when trying to climb over each other) and the provide a couple of degrees extra protection at nights. I've never seen them in B&Q Edinburgh which is the same sort of size store as Livingston but the likes of Jewson might have them. B&Q call them roof ridge tiles I think. |

Ah great, they really are good aren't they, I have dug mine in so it goes into the ground for digging, works very well for her! I would put up a picture, but I have no clue how to XD.
By the way Alan what a lovely tort, how old is he/she, she's got a wonderfully smooth shell! -Charles |

When you have posted 5 times you will see that your posts will come up automatically. I had terrible problems trying to upload pictures until I was advised to use photobucked and then you can copy image. Easier than it sounds once you have done it. Good luck and welcome to the forum. I have a terracotta chimney cowling the torts seem to like. Same sort of idea.

I picked one of these roof ridges up from a reclamation yard for £2.00 today, it's now in my outside enclosure just waiting for the torts now!
