Male hibernation weight
My male hermanns is 5 years old and weighs 283g and is 11.8cm so on the Jackson Ratio he is coming out as 0.172242537. Is this always too light for male tortoises? I'm sure I have read something about active males being lighter, what constitutes as an active male? As he has recently discovered his love of humping but none of my females are old enough to lay eggs or anything so he hasn't been able to properly mate with another tortoise but has done his fair share of chasing!
Any advice would be great, and if I do have to overwinter him, what do I feed him? Should I use pellets to supplement a salad diet? Thanks!

The Hailey calculator does take into account males and females and does seperate calculation for each sex. Your male is low as I'm getting 345g for his size. He is too light to be hibernated this year.
Yes you can add a pellet to his diet. Danny

Most are very good, it's just finding one your tortoise will eat.
