Tell you what is interesting.

Look at this current european temperature map and compare it to the Hermanns tortoise range map sticky at the top of this section. A lot of places tortoises inhabit are over 10C at the moment.

That is air temperatures, below ground temperatures are slow to react to air temperatures, pretty stable. But if it hasn't been cold enough to bring the temperatures in the soil down at all, I'm not sure how wild tortoises would react. Could be a really good or really bad thing for them. Overnight temps are below 5C but that may not cool the soil a few inches down to any extent.

Saw some interesting pictures and comments on another forum of various turtle species kept outdoors in the UK which have been out "basking" in 12C air temperatures recently. The air is warmer than the water at the moment which is why I assume tgey've surfaced.
