Question Is calendula the same as marigold

Hi is calendula the same as marigold because every time i look it up on the tortoise table website all that comes up is marigold or french marigold. Its not that important its only because i got given these plant seeds and was wandering if they were edible and since marigold is i thought i would take a look.

Yes they are one and the same. I sent for seeds to grow as well! Only just saw on this forum recently that it is torts favorite food! I've already got my wee greenhouse full of growing weed seeds and pansies (sams favorite). Hope my new baby tort likes them as well as I have enough growing to feed an army of torts! Love this time of year when I can get things growing again!!

I've grown these in the past and my torts were not very keen. So now I don't bother.

Calendula Officinalis is edible and marigold isn't. just to confuse you it's called pot marigold sometimes. Tinternet says...

Don’t confuse calendula with ornamental marigolds of the Tagets genus, which are commonly grown in vegetable gardens

My torts trample over them and have never so much as even stopped to sniff one

What he said

The Tortoise Table's plant databse is quite good on this one: Calendula

Also, I bought several different packets of Calendula from different shops and each one produced different flowers , Similar but not the same. About now, they have them in Morrisons for 59p
