True, but I was told on here 1 slice every so often is good for the shell.

Apples say 'feed in moderation' on tort table website and I would say a little fed infrequently will be ok. It's soft fruits and esp banana that's really bad and you will know that by what comes through as has been said. Overall fruit isn't good for any mediterranean species. Theres no need to give it when there's much better stuff available.

I'll echo the above. Russians and Greeks should not be given fruit on a regular basis. Which doesn't mean they don't love it; they do. It's just not good for them.

It's a green stuff diet for them.

The Tortoise Table - Plant database is great for finding out recommended foods

These should be helpful to you too:

There is such a thing as feeding too much fruit but I don't think it has anthing to do with the sugar content although I would think that too much can't be good either.

Feeding a mojority of any one food item is most likely going to lead to an imbalance of other nutrients.

I don't think feeding some fruit is a bad thing. When I suggest fruit I mention barely ripened pome fruit (apples, pears, cherrys...) and berries. If they are not too ripe they are relatively low sugar and low moisture. These are pretty much the only fruit I suggest... occasional tomatos are acceptable also.

There is some speculation that too much of these items disturb the gut flora but, again, too much of anything is probably going to cause a physiological imbalance... although I've yet to read a report of an actual controlled study.

I would think that about 5% fruit of their regular feedings would not do any harm considering what I mentioned above.

Again... common sense should tell you that tortoises do eat fruit in the wild.

Thanks

If you were to rely on just/mainly salad mix through the winter and not much else, i would consider feeding a little fruit +veg mix in moderation. As said to carry through the balance of missed nutrient's.
