Putting new torts together
I have a 2 yr old Hermanns and am thinking of getting another this year. Probably a 4-6 month to a year old hatchling, or younger. I will introduce them slowly if I get another, will they be ok living together? I will feed the smaller one seperately to make sure she is fed. Is this ok? I want a younger hatchling, but only if it is possible with Tamba.
Thanks

Hi Aliza, I think you'd have to quarrantine them, incase your newbie made Tamba ill. I'm sure someone who knows more about this will be along soon!

Quarantine is advisable imho, at least 6 months. Having two together is more than possible, the more room they have the less likely hood of problems.
If you end up with 2 boys or a boy and a girl, you may find you need to keep them separate all the time, 2 girls generally get on most of the time. I don't see a problem with a 2 year difference, but theres no guarantee that the torts will get along so you just need to be aware of that. |

Hermanns have quite a gentle nature on the whole. You can try to find out what temperature they were incubated at to give you a rough idea of what sex the hatchlings are but you can never guarantee it.2 females are fine

is quarantining completly necassary, what if you buy one, not shop bought but from a breeder. is there a less likely chance of illness?

if BOTH are uk breeder bred, there is a less chance of illness, but you would still want to wait before putting them together , even if it was just for the simple reason of saving yourself 2 vets bills should one of them be carrying something! |

Apart from the illness and pathogen thing, I feel it's a good idea to quaranteen any tort so as to observe their behaviour and to let them settle in.
