Very nice Blake You can post a clear, full plastron picture in the ID section and we can give a go at sexing.
I remember you mentioning a Hermanns tortoise. Your tortoise though is a Spur-thighed tortoise, Testudo graeca ibera. Did you get an article 10? Danny

Oh right I got told it was a hermans
Is the much difference, what size do spur-thigheds get to and do they need any extra care in comparison to a hermans or are do they need the same care. Also I got a certificate off of the bloke who sold me it, it has all his details etc and it says here "scientific name of species - Testudo Hermanni" "common name of species - Hermanns Tortoise" It has other things if you want a picture I can post one if you like? Jah Bless

I just saw this pic of a hermanns and it looks a lot like my first pic in this section [IMG][/IMG] I just done a wikipedia search on spur-thighs and they grow huge, so im hoping it is a hermanns. But surely he wouldnt give me a spur-thighed with a hermanns certificate he's a genuine bloke i've been using his shop and chatting to him for about a year and a half now.
Speak soon Jah Bless

No Blake, it definitely looks like a spur thigh, but you have probably read about the African spur thigh which yes are huge!! Med and Tunsian Spur thighs however are not so big!
He/She looks lovely, a little bumpy like my little man, but with lots of care from you i'm sure he will do just great!

It's a lovely tortoise congratulations.
I thought from the photos that it was an Ibera so not sure why you have that article 10. If it is it's basically the same care as a Hermann and much the same size. Whatever it is, it's lovely and you will soon be captivated by the wonders of tort keeping

Your new tortoise is a Spur-thighed tortoise Blake. Your "genuine" bloke has given you the wrong certificate. I would go back and have him give you the right certificate.
Sasha, I'm afraid T.g.ibera is the largest subspecies of Spur-thighed at 38cm. Though most don't get anywhere near that big. Danny
