Hi has he moved to your place for a bit? If so he may just be settling in. What are his temps in his warm spot and cool end ?

A healthy tortoise wont starve, so maybe an expert can step in and help .
A bath may help, maybe try giving him a nice warm bath then put his food in afterwards.
Like Linds said, maybe you should check the temps and make sure they are ok.
Has he been active though?

I wouldnt worry too much. He will eat when hes hungry, and if he doesnt, your friend will have to take him to the vets.
Im sure he is just on a go slow for a bit and he will perk up soon
