What is this noise?
I heard what sounded like a sneeze coming from Dolly's enclosure so i looked in and she opened her mouth and did it again. It wasn't a sneeze, it came from her mouth!! She hasnt got a runny nose and she was at the vet yesterday for a check-up and got a clean bill of health. I've looked in other posts and they mention expelling air when they put their heads in but her head and neck were out. Can anyone tell me if this is normal?
BTW Dolly is a 9yr old female horsfield (got her 2 wks ago) Thanks |

Ours are Hermanns but they also do things like that too. Like you I was worried about it but it would seem that it must be quite normal.
I think they must get dust up their nostrils at times |

you will find tortoises are quite vocal at times. Especially because of the limited room in the shell, they will make lots of noises when they withdraw inside. Not to worry unless you see bubbles from his nose

They do yawn too
But gaping is not a good sign if thats what your tortoise is doing. Having a clean bill of health should mean your tortoise is ok. Provided you used a tortoise vet, and not a general vet.

Phew, mine has been making a few funny squeaking noises now and again but nothing's coming out of it's nose.
