Tubular Heaters !!!!
I have recently had a 4 ft tubular heater put in the bedding area of my Leopard enclosure.
The area is 5 ft x 7ft - the temperature only seems to heat the area to 23 oc - is this normal? I have got a plug in stat for it but it doesn't really reach a good temp to switch off !!!!! |

I have yet to buy my heater, i think that is the max temp 70f produced by a tube, as they are background heat against winter temps.

I would say the tube heater is for mainly night time heat, on a thermostat, to stop drops below 60f, they are safe to leave on and should have a built in overload, my Leo in the shed, just has a 100w ceramic in his closed off area at the mo, and he has moved away to sleep when set at 70f, so i go for 64f on the thermostat, seems to like that better.

Through the really cold months mine are on day and night and I'm still using the same tubes I got 4 yrs ago, so you should be fine.

Thank you both - I worry about leaving heaters on .
I have a problem with my plug in stat as it is much higher than the heater so the temp on the floor is always much lower than the stat shows. I think I am just not thinking about it logically so the stat hasn't been successful but for now I will just leave the tubular heater on all night. |
