Yes all M.V lamps have built in protection,
Part of this is a thermal cutout, if the lamp gets too hot it goes off to protect itself. They won't however re-start by themselves you need to turn the power off first. The same really applies to faltering connections. If the lamp has unstable current it will turn off, you then have to turn off the power and wait 5 mins before it can come back on. This is the biggest cause of return!! Keepers think that the lamp has blown but there is 100% nothing wrong with it, just a faltering current that caused the lamp to do whatbit was designed to do and that is protect itself, I just want happy customers so we tend just to advise retailers to swap them over no worries, John

Did you have to send them back your old bulb before they would send you another out? I brought my bulb from surrey pets not that long ago, am away in scotland atm but my partner has just told me it is not even flickering just a tiny blue light bit, he has tried everything and it wont come on!! Had an arcadia bulb shatter before this one......... Mmmmm beginning to wonder if i should try a different make, but have been told these are the best!?

In the very unlikely event of lamp issues, just let me know. These products are guaranteed for a year for a reason! It's very old fashioned tech!!
T5s will really rock your animals world and save you a fortune on running costs! John
