Red face Long claws

Hi all,

The claws on my 10y THB’s back legs are very long. Too long in my opinion. Is it safe for me to trim them at home or should only a vet do it?

Never want to do anything I shouldn’t!

Thanks

Tortoise need long nails at the back, especially females. As they need them to dig nests.
In over 40yrs I have never had to trim tortoises nails, and I have had quite a few at one time or another.
If you really have to, get a vet to show you how:0)

Give them some rough surfaces to negotiate. My friends tortoise was ill on & off for about a year, she finally figured out since she cut her nails. One bled & she thinks bacteria got in.
