Excellent point Peter, as anyone who has been through a loft conversion can testify, the dust up there is unbelievable!

We've been in our current house for 3 years and I've (or my o/h) NEVER even looked what's going on on our loft!!!All sort of workmen are but not we!It's silly I know but it's too scary place to me....

Great idea. I wouldn't be able to do that as there is blown-in insulation up there. Anyone who goes up there comes out looking like a Yeti

Mine would be fine as I have converted it and have a window up there too, so I'm hoping Dave desn't have much fluctuation with the temps and I may copy

Hi Kirkie,

Great idea for saving space, like you have identified watch the temps, in the winter serious drops can happen quickly also in hotter months the heat can be unbearable in a loft space, but by this time they should be outside basking in the real sun.

Just be careful in the loft for yours and the torrtoises health that you do not rise up the dust from the glass fibre attic insulation.

just wondering, if it was cold up there would the lamp heat not cause condensation?

Hi Alan,

Lofts are quite draughty, because like you say they are cold they can get condensation if not well ventilated; this is why it would be draughty up there.

I was thinking of condensation on the outside of the cold water tank since it fills up with very cold water and any heat would cause condensation on the tank, however I'm going by my own tank which is zinc, other people may not even have a tank up there or could be plastic or insulated or whatever.

I was in my loft sorting an aerial cables once and had a floodlight up there and it caused condensation on the tank with the heat
