Default Urgent - unexpected eggs.

Hey guys one of my tortoises is currently laying eggs and I have no incubator. What can I do until I can get hold of one?

Thanks in advance.

My Roxy has laid eggs today to Sam, totally unexpected and its my first time, fortunately I have an incubator and vermiculite in the loft, the eggs are currently in the warm airing cupboard until I can sort it out, if you put them in the airing cupboard then you can go buy one from a reptile store if you have near you x

They should be fine at room temp for up to a week, keep the on something like top soil or sand or paper towel around them so they won't roll , they must not roll or turn, this can kill the embryo. The best base to keep them on is vamiculite , you can get this from swell reptiles

Ok I have acquired a 'Lucky Reptile HN-2' incubator until I can get my own. I also have plastic food containers and vermiculite. The egg is half buried in vermiculite in the tub.

Sorry to be annoying but can someone just tell me what to do?! With regard to temperature, humidity etc. I'm not sure what needs to be damp.

Me too Sam, good luck with the eggs, if our eggs are fertile they will be hatching around the same time x

And good luck with yours!

I've put the incubator on to 32c, and have the egg half buried in vermiculite. What do I do now?! Dampen the vermiculite and put it in? I don't really get where the water comes into it.

No need to wet the vermiculite , keep it dry, it's only to stop the egg from rolling , also no need to half burry the egg, just make a small hollow for it to sit in so it doesn't roll. 31-32c for females, and humidity 75-80 . Use a shallow dish for water by the side of the tub with egg in, to create the humidity , a bigger surface area of water will create more humidity. So a shallow , wide dish. Hope this is clear.

That's great thanks so much. I don't have a hydrometer (?) so shall I just top the water up as it goes down, or buy one ASAP?
