Default Vets advice

I am taking all my torts to the vets tomorrow for a check up for the first time.
What do you generally ask to have done or checked?

I have been collecting poo to be tested for parasites.
I want to get the females x-rayed as one of the recently laid an over calcified egg.
I am also thinking of getting the adults chipped because of some of the thefts that have recently happened.

Does anyone have any top tips with regard to the above? Is there anything else that I should be thinking about? How much would you normally pay for any of this?

Thanks all

when I take any of mine to the vets I take as many as poss and they charge just one consultation fee but any meds make it expensive .
Consultation charges range from £23.00 to £35.00 depending who you go to .
hope this helps

xrays can cost you from £50 upwards depending on where you go. you asking for them to be chipped and checked for parasites is all you should have to do because if your going to a decent vet they will give the tortoises a full health check anyway, mouth, eyes, weight, etc, without you having to ask

Thanks all

The vet wormed the adults but not the yearlings. He chipped the adults as he said that it was really required by law.
He didn't X-ray the adults as he said it wasn't needed.

I was pleased with the consultation as he seemed to give the same advice as the TT and BCG.

Cheers

Did you tell the vet about her laying an over calcified egg? im shocked he did not xray her just to be on the safe side. Chiiping is not really a must, only a must if you plan to sell them on, get paper work for any babies. But as you said its good incase your tortoises get stolen.

Sarah thanks for the info -
To be honest I was expecting him to x-ray . I'm not that worried as the tort was giving gravid signs just before the egg was laid. This has stopped now. This tort has always only laid one egg at a time in the past. I also have a family member who is a vet, so I will ask her to x-ray if the behaviour comes back.

He did spend a lot of time confirming good husbandry, which I was pleased with.
