Default Horsfield Runny nose

Hi our 3 yr ok'd Horsefield tort hasn't been very active lately he didn't hibernate as it's our first year with him our other rescue tort did for about 4 weeks and got up and became very active more or less straight away so we won't worry about him this year.
But our other one has always got up sat under lamp had a wander and then something to eat. He's had a runny nose more or less since we got him in April 2013 and occasionally would see a small bubble out of one nostril
We've had him to the vets who've said hecseens healthy enough and strong but have given him an antibiotic injection which he has to have 3 times a week fir the next 4-6 weeks
This is a bit of a problem due to the vets being a 80 mile round trip the other thing us the vet said we could administer the injection ourselves!!!!!
Has anyone here had to do the same
Thanks Debbie

When mine once had RNS they were given baytril antibiotics by mouth. You will need to keep the temps up at 30c day and night for the antibiotics to work.
And keep him well away from the other tort , RNS is very contagious .

Hi, I have given injections to one of my torts, in the back legs, the vet can show you how to do it, and you can do it with the vet watching, then you can do it yourself at home without keep taking him to the vet. However, I only had to inject 3 times a week for 2 weeks....4-6 weeks seem a bit long to me.

I have given the antibiotic also on romaine lettuce (as they can't resist a bit of romaine) worked just as well x

i have also injected a course of antibiotics (batril) but into alternate front legs, the vet should show you how to do it so you don't have to keep going back.

Hi and thanks all for replies
Will keep ceramic on over nite
The Vet injected to the bit in-between his neck and leg
He said it's easier injecting than trying to administer oral through mouth
Were going again Mon nite and will try infront of the vet to see if I can do it hopefully will only be for about 2-3 weeks
He was outside last summer with our other tort but will not put together now just to be safe although he seems fine

It will be nerve racking at first but if the shows you how to do it, and he should give you tamodine to wipe the area before you inject x

My vet advised to inject in the fatty part under front legs where they join shell, alternate legs each time. Remember not to touch the "plunger" until the needle is in.

Just as a matter of interest are you saying you have had the two torts together & the other hasn't caught it? Only reason im asking if I have had two related torts who didn't have best start in life & one of these has displayed a runny nose all this year but its non contagious. My vet reckons its due to lack of vitamin A as a youngster. I did have a course of antibiotics (oral) at beginning of winter but also swopped her onto ACE high supplement instead of Nurtrobal or similar & the problem, touch wood has not reoccurred (which it did without the addition of ACE high)
