It just makes you feel like banging your head against a brick wall when you think of all those watching it and taking it all in....

Quite, and why wouldn't they if they feel 'experts' are endorsing it. After all, you assume the researchers on tv programmes source the very best to come on the show to demonstrate what to do.

At least your parents have you to put them straight Lynne.

I believe the TT are the only tortoise welfare group to recommend a method of hibernation with 0°C & 10°C as the upper and lower limits and 5°C as an ideal. I think I'm right in saying that it was invented many years ago by Andy Highfield himself.

http://www.tortoisetrust.org/articles/safer.html

I personally wouldn't call that method "safer". It makes me wonder how many keepers think or have thought it is okay to hibernate their tort between the temperatures of 0 & 10 degrees.

Maybe Mr Highfield would like to come on here and explain how his 0°C to 10°C hibernation method should work, as it seems the Alan Titchmarsh team and others might not of understood it.
Or maybe the TT are now happy for tortoises to be hibernated just above freezing point or just below 10 degrees C, if an ideal 5°C can not be maintained ?
