They are 18years old and sisters, we got them in 94. We believe in a slow steady grow rate so they are not as big as others that age but they are growing consistently and are pure solid and hardy because of how we kept them.
The smaller one got sick about 15years ago and we've never had a problem since. Touch wood.

Our big girl is 16"-17" scl and smaller one is 14"-15".
No thank god they have never bitten, they are quite tame but mistakes happen so you got to be pretty careful when hand feeding alright.

Sure do, a full black bin bag will last 3-4 days. We use rough grasses / weeds mix. They have ferocious appetites alright but worth all the hours of filling those bags.

What do you mean by rough grasses? And how do you get them food in the winter? And how big is the area they live in and do you use it too?
Sorry for the questions they are just brilliant and interesting!

Rough grasses here in Ireland means scrub land. We go to a farm for ours but we don't pick the short rich grass in the fields. We pick the long grass that borders the fields along fences and ditches. It's the wild grass we pick not the grazing grass.
Their indoor house is about 15ftx10ft and they have our garden to roam. In the winter we supplement them with hay and you can still get the rough grass if you look for it. Very occasionally if we are stuck we will throw them the odd cabbage or Kale head.

Cool! Can you sunbathe with them or might they bite you?
