if there are any 'point and shoot' ones on Ebay they are the best ones to get. I have one that I got in Maplin's sale for £20 and I have a Lidl ordinary type as well to compare.

I am very tempted by the infra red one A little more than I would like to spend though, but I do, must have something that is accurate and long lasting. So I guess the more you pay the better you get. Will look about, see whats about...Thanks for everyones replies

The infared ones are great. I used to race remote control nitro trucks and had to use one to measure the engine temp.
