Sulcata has 45 babies
In the News ... we read this in the paper a few days ago ...
"With 45 babies to look after, it's to be hoped that Kali the tortoise lives up to her name, which means 'energetic'. Currently just four inches long, these hatchlings are African Sulcatas, the third largest tortoise species in the world, and will eventually grow to between 24 and 36 inches long, and weigh up to 14 and a half stone. Kali, aged 30, laid two clutches of eggs in March and April in Linton Zoo in Cambridgeshire". http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/arti...inton-Zoo.html I love the photos taken of Kali and her babies

I remember visiting Linton Zoo about 30 years ago. It wasn't a friendly place for visitors with children. That was before they had tortoises. Might pay a visit.

I recently had to go to London Zoo with the school I work for. I wasn't too happy about going at first as I hated London Zoo when I went years ago.
To my surprise it had changed quite a bit and some of the animals have great enclosures and they have a type of monkey that is not enclosed at all. I did ask if they ever lose any but I was told they always come back for food and sometimes they have to go looking for them before the zoo shuts so they can be put away for the night, The only downfall was the giraffe enclosure very sad xx

Aww...wonderful pics.
I didn't visit zoos for years but caved in when the kids came along. This year we visited Bristol zoo for the first time and it was nicely done. There wasn't as huge a variety of animals as our nearest zoo in Paignton but the enclosures were reasonable. My son has free entry to London zoo as part of the diploma course he's doing but it's quite a trek for us.
