Humidity

Hi just wondering what everyone does about humidity in a tortoise table?I have iberas and hermanns (in separate tables) and have been spraying the soil daily but not sure if this is enough?thanks

Your tortoises should be fine for humidity. Just make sure your bathing them regularly as that's how they get hydrated.

In my opinion nighttime is the most important time for the tortoise to be in a place with more humidity. Its also easier to make it happen then. For my really small tortoises I use a plastic food tray upside down with a hole cut in the side. I damp the soil, the little ones go in there when the lights go down. The plastic traps some moisture as the temperature falls. As far as the torts are concerned, its a dark little cave where they feel safe.

This can work well, but don't do it if it is likely to be cold overnight.

Bigger ones maybe won't choose to go into a hide in this way. But the humidity might not be of such importance in terms of growth.

Plants can also work for helping humidity in a table. I tend to lightly water the soil in Lilys table, mainly round the basking spot, but also have a big spider plant and another plant on a normal table I keep nearby. I find when the lights come on, the soil being moistened round the basking area makes a bit of humidity.

wee ones like to hide under this plastic tray at nite. If the soil is damp the humidity rises under the plastic tray. its a cheap option and if it doesn;t work try something else

I don't use a humid hide or spray their table much at all, maybe once a week. I do bath them everyday though. They seem to be growing fine with it

Thanks for the advice-tried the humid plastic hide tonight.iberas set up camp in their usual places and hermanns have pushed theirs away and settled in their usual spots. Stubborn buggers lol but I guess they know what's best?

I spray the tables once a day and they have a daily bath. They do LOVE their baths
