Should I worm - just in case??
Hi all, I have had George for 3 weeks and Shelly for 2, they are 8 & 3 months old Hermanns from different breeders. They seem perfectly healthy and happy, gaining steady weight and everything seems hunky dorey. I am wondering if I should possibly worm them just in case?
If so what wormer should I get and where from, I could do without a vet bill when nothing seems to be wrong. Thanks in advance for any advice, SW has been fantastic! I have been glued! Sandra

If they are gaining steady weight and all else seems fine then they most likely don't have worms, mine was losing weight when he had worms, worming also wipes out the beneficial bacteria in the gut so it might do more harm than good if they don't actually have worms, if you did want to you could always just have stool samples checked by a vet, that shouldn't cost too much.

...and I agree with Paige. I also don't worm unless I have cause or concern to.
If that happens, then I get a poop sample to my exotics vet.... Then go from there. ( Try and find a good one , there is a list on this website, I believe.) Last edited by yuna1971; 05-04-2011 at 08:53 PM. |

Yes they are housed together (naughty I know!) but both breeders swore how healthy they were and the set ups they were in were certainly good and away from adults so I decided against quarantine as they were both so young. I wont do anything then unless I get any concerns but happy to say everything is super with them both, typical mum wanting to do the best for them.
Thanks Guys Sandra.

If it's piece of mind Sandra, take a fresh stinking poo from each and pop it to your exotics vet for them to test. if anything, it might just ease your mind... xx

.. but don't take it to the one Rowan was at or it will cost £140
.. but if you really want to have some handy just in case then check out the data sheet on this stuff http://www.wormers.co.uk/acatalog/Pa...g-Sachets.html |

I think they sell similar stuff in pets at home, panacur paste I think. I think you have to ask for it, don't think it's on the shelf. online at the site I linked to you have to answer some questions too just like you do when buying from an online chemist

Panacur paste is definitely sold at pets at home and its normally in a locked "thingy" by the till.
If you use it make sure you get the quantities right especially with such small torts. |
