Ear mites in dogs :(
Anyone have any experience of this? My dogs have been scratching at their ears and shaking their heads the past couple of days and after googling it I think they may have ear mites Harveys ears look very irritated and he's going nuts scratching at them. They are booked into the vet for Thursday but is there anything I can do in the meantime to soothe them??? Poor babies

Yes my Bonnie had ear mites and she made her ear quite inflamed. Untill the vets appointment you can get some ear mite drops from pets at home or other pet shops just to soothe them a little. xx

Thanks Lynne, can't bear to see them in such discomfort, and the pups ears stink!!! Nasty infection to have, have never had this before with them!

Do the ears have wax in them and if they are red, it could be a build up of yeast. The ear cleaner with the pyrethene in would be the best. It will kill mites as well. You need to put the stuff in twice a day for about a week. Should clear it up. If your dog has floppy ears, they are most likely to have problems, so it's a good idea to clean every week as a precaution.

Thanks SL They are Yorkies, aged 5 yrs and 5 months, the vet checked them in March and they were fine then, they got groomed last week and got their ears cleaned then, but we've been out for loads of walks so god knows where they got them from. The pups ears stick up but Harveys ears are floppy his seem to be worse.

Aww, it must be really irrating for them, imagine little bugs in their ears. They will probably need antibiotics too, especially if they've scratched so much.
Untill you get the drops try cleaning the ears out with a tissue, you'll probably see loads of brown gunk come out.

Thanks all for your replies, tried cleaning his ears out with a tissue and no brown gunk came out so am thinking it may be a yeast infection?? No foreign objects in their either Am stuck in waiting for an Argos delivery but as soon as that comes will go and get eardrops out of the petshop, the vet unfortunately could not see him today
