Default is this an opuntia?

Hi,
can anyone enlighten me if this plant is an opuntia? and if so, what type/subspecies of opuntia?
it sure looks like one.

I'm no expert, but it doesn't look like Optunia to me.

It might be as there are loads of different types of opuntia but I don't think it's opuntia ficus indica

hi Alan, yeah, it has some resemblances with opuntia, but it doesnt feel like one.. lol
I have some types of opuntias, and on this one I'm not sure at all.

It may be O. Basilaris monstrous as it's got a lot of weird,knobbly bits( that's the monstrous part!)

The thing to do when taking opuntia cuttings is to pull a pad off then leave it to dry for a few days/a week, until there is a sort of scar tissue on the part you are going to put in the compost. Don't pull a pad off then immediately plant it. Support the new pad with a few twigs and don't overwater and it should soon root. Overwatering kills most of these succulents/cactus.
