Cheap?! Lol!
Havent been on in a while....
Just been reading through preloved (I know bad lol, but i cant help myself ) and the amount of people advertising tortoises as a 'Cheap' and 'easy' and 'a perfect childs/ first pet' is astonishing. Not slating anyone who has owned one from a child or had one as a first pet but come on really?.....If you really think about it, think of all the things u need to buy/ have to keep a tortoise healthy etc: Enclosure (Indoor and out) Substrate Heat Lamps UV Lighting Calcium/ other supplements. Then theres replacing things such as: small/ no longer suitable enclosures and replacing with larger or more suitable ones. Replacing Heat/ UV bulbs And dont forget the leccy bills! ha! Im sorry but it just makes me laugh when people say that tortoises dont require lots of looking after and they are cheap to keep etc. The only thing i find cheap is the food (Free weeds etc). And i hate it when people think they can get away with just feeding a tortoise a bit of lettuce and be done with it! -_- .....You cannot honestly say that they dont cost a lot when u mount everything up? Or is this just me lol! Sorry feeling ranty! haha!

i saw a tortoise yesterday at a local rescue centre that does spring/autumn tort m.o.t. the tort was 70+ years old, never seen a uv or heat lamp, never been to vets because they are expensive and most of them dont know about torts.
so it can be cheap and easy to keep them!!!!!!!! lol lol even after chatting to the staff and being told the benefits of light/heat i still dont think she was convinced.by the way it was a gorgeous female ibera. |
