I live in Edinburgh and i am looking for a tortoise. is there any possible advice on the best place to get one.

try redfootmarg - i am pretty sure he is up that way - but my geography is notoriously appalling...

Think redfootmarg is near to you like tuftybunny said. My geography isn't good either but I think Perthshire maybe about a hour away from you.
He has beautiful tortoises, you will beable to p.m him after you have made 5 posts. x
