Possible Golden Greek?
Hi,
I'm hoping someone may be able to help id my new tortoise Tilly for me. Another forum has suggested a Golden Greek as she's quite light in colouring. Hopefully the piccies are okay, and hopefully she's a girlie too Thanks for any advice you can give, she's only been with me 2 weeks tomorrow and I will not be hibernating her this year. She's approx. 2 years old and her history prior to 1 year old is completely unknown. She weighs 167g and is 9.5cm. Thankyou again Last edited by egyptiandan64; 23-12-2011 at 10:38 PM. |

It is a female and she does look like a "Golden" spur-thigh, Testudo graeca terrestris. You shouldn't be hibernating her and she looks to be quite a bit older than 2 years old. She's probably around 5 years old.
She should end up getting around 16cm long. Danny

Thank you Danny, I shall do more homework on her needs. I can't believe my baby's possibly 5years old! She seems tiny to me
I'm secretly pleased I don't have to hibernate though as I'd miss her Thank you Emma, I think she's beautiful too, I'm completely besotted with her. |

Golden spur-thighs don't get very big. Females between 6 and 9 inches and males 4 to 6 inches. The care is the same as other spur-thighs only that they don't hibernate and like it a bit warmer, especially at night.

Thanks again Danny.
I've been keeping her along the guidelines of a mediterranean spur-thigh. She's beside my bed and the temp doesn't drop much below 20 degrees at night. I was worried it'd be too warm for her, but she seems to be doing well. I'll monitor it and if I need to drop it further, I'll open a window vent, I just don't want her getting a draught! It doesn't matter about me, I can wear a jumper |

i have no experience of this species of tortoise, but purely from an observational view does the carapace look a little short in pic 3 or is this normal?

20C at night is just fine, don't really want it any lower.

This may just be the angle of the camera as I was trying to focus on her teeny spurs But then again, I'm completely new to tortoise-owning so you may be right! If so, I hope it is normal.

She is a pretty little tortoise! I have never seen one in the shell so to speak. I am sure you will enjoy her!
