cold temperatures
Where I live ( South East)the temperatures are currently down to 8-10 degrees at night.
Unlike some other people I have decided to leave my 2 hermans out at night (age 3 and 4). They are in an unheated coldframe and seem to dig themselves into a corner. I cover them with some straw on top. I just thought this would be better than moving them indoors when it is cold and then out again. My question is if the cold can actually harm them in any way? Can they catch a cold or infection this way? Hoping for warm weather again soon!! Julia |

Thanks for this advice. It does get a bit damp in the straw, with all the recent rain, but they still prefer this particular corner. I suppose it is more natural to leave them outdoors and they probably know what is best for them...Let's hope.

I would remove the straw Julia, it will do more harm than good. As the torts are cold blooded it serves no purpose and can actually harbour mould spores if damp which will affect your torts respiratory system. If they are too cold they will dig down into the soil. Hope this helps
