Slugs

Does anybody have any ideas on how to stop slugs eating my flowers?

As much as they bug me i cant abide killing them and wondered if anyone had heard of a way to deter slugs??

My nan said to try Egg shells.

She said she used to save all her egg shells, dry them, break them up, and sprinkle over the area of where the snails are eating. snails don't like crossing the broken egg shells,. You need to dry the egg shells so they crumble better. Wet ones crumble, but not as well.

Try is if my nan said it works it must do

Physical deterrents – gravel mulches, sand, crushed egg shells, hair soot are all effective to a certain extent. Hostas in pots can have Vaseline or copper or aluminium tape around the rims. Sections of plastic pot or bottles around young plants helps

Coffee. New research has found caffeine to be very effective at dispatching slugs. Save your dregs and spray them full strength directly on the beasts in the evening. Surround plants under attack with a mulch of used coffee grounds to deter slugs and feed the plants.

Ducks! Just turn a few loose in the garden—these feathered friends (and natural fertilizer providers) are among nature’s FINEST slug-eaters!

Also, Beer in a dish will help it attracts them and they like beer but they silently just go to sleep with a hangover and never wake up

Better than salt and watching them shrivel up i guess.

Sand is another good one, sorry to say but I go around the garden and pick them up and put them in a bag of salt, tie a knot in the top and throw them in the bin. Sorry slugs!!!!!!!!!

Thank you, Joanna, Linda and Kay. Well we have lots of sand so i will try that 1st i think. Failing that i shall be asking my friends to save up the egg shells.
