Awww, my tortie has finally realised what soil is for!
My little horsfield has just buried himself in soil for the 1st time! He has lived on beech chips all his life and since I had him in Nov, a month ago I changed his substrate to half topsoil half chips and he didnt even go on the soil side except to feed, I stuck with it and today I have come home from work to this.....
The soil is about 12 cm deep so he could in theory bury himself but hey its a start, little baby steps and all that lol.

Looks like he has settled down for the night in the soil, he normally sleeps in a wooden hide on the beech chips side of the table, shall I leave him where he is or move him to his hide? Will he be warm enough when the light goes out?

He will sleep where he is comfy, no need to move him

I worry because my son wants a python but more worried in case it eats Alfred (the tortoise not my son lol) Will I ever stop worrying? ha ha ha ha, thanks for your advice lol

Worrying is part and parcel
The amount of times i have frantically logged on here for help is unreal!! Torts are very clever and if they are 2 warm they will move. 2 cold they will move. Uncomfy they will move and so on so just trust that where ever they plonk down for the night it is the best for them X |
