Planting Mallow
I pulled up a lovely mallow plant yesterday and planted it in the garden.
The dog has just brought it in for me to play with !!!!!!! Just wondered if anyone else has successfully replanted a mallow plant ? |

Anne. If you have some root stock, it may be better planting in a pot not too big, but big enough, this will warm easier and hopefully get the plant growing, after being pulled up, it can sometimes help to cut it back a little, so most of the plant put's trying to root first.

I think you are right Alan, Lavatera are just flowers and I think they die off in the winter. I have a couple of lovely tree mallows that are growing back

Good question Alan I have several bush types as they were being sold in the big supermarkets for about £2-£3 last year. But I brought some seeds a few weeks ago from Lidl 29p which say Lavateria/Mallow but seem to be for the bush type as say can grow 3/4ft with large spread?? Im pretty sure they can eat both though, so I will plant & hope for the best!

it says on the seeds 'lavatera trimestris' and the pic shows bushy looking flowers all colours. the lavatera I have growing out there is a twiggy bush thing, not very tall though, just like a mini tree about 18 inches high and it produces new white flowers every day in summer, the torts love them
this is lavatera trimestris but in one colour http://www.visionspictures.com/cms_d...hp?pic_id=2133 Last edited by Alan1; 04-03-2011 at 10:18 AM. |

Lavatera is a perenial shrub commonly known as mallow, grows up to 6ft x 6ft. The mallow seeds wil be, I presume, the annual lavatera ones which are mainly flower and small. Last week bought a hibiscus from B & M Bargains £1.99 kept in conservatory and already rooted.
