The Royal Society for the Protection of Birds has warned that bread is a "filler" that lacks the nutrients birds need to thrive. Instead, bird tables should be stocked with a healthy mix of seeds or worms, grated cheese, porridge oats or soft apples, bananas or strawberries. |

I have been putting out the meal worms that my APH has left at the end of the week - unfortunately they are freezing before they are being eaten.
I will try the fruit you suggest Carl. |

I put out fruit cake that we haven't eaten.
Theres nothing actually harmful in bread, its just not that good nutrionally, and they can fill up on bread, and not get the good food they need especially at this time of year. Like our torts, they need a good varried diet. |

I put out seeds, nuts, insects in suet, raisens and sultanas, and a few scraps that are left over from lunch.
Yeah I heard that you shouldn't feed bread either, nor rice, as it fills them up, during the winter fat is good as it gives them energy. |

I have fat balls and a mixture of seeds hanging, mealworms on table but next door throws loads of slices of bread out and they prefer this to the food I provide, obviously don't know whats good for themselves.
