Whats wrong with the thermostat??
I use a Dimmer habistat thermostat with a CHE for Lilys night time warmth.
Trouble is I think its acting a bit strange or there is something I haven't done...or whatever. Now I know its been a bit cold at nights. I got the probe set away from the CHE, its more at the end of the hide to pick up the temp. Thing is...when I switch the thermostat on (connected to the CHE), its putting out full pelt heat - as in,....the room is sub zero! I checked with a point and click thermometer and at worst it drops to about 16 degrees. The setting on the thermostat, I have set to about this range. Am I right in thinking...the light should be flickering ...as in, not statically on - which is what it is and blasting out heat like its sub zero in there. I tweaked the level on the thermostat, I put it right down to zero, the thing was still blasting out. Basically no matter what setting its on...its not doing the "dimmer" effect. It is just blasting out heat from the CHE no matter what temp it is in the room. Anyone had this problem or know what it could be. The instructions that you get with the thermostat mention nothing about this. They also aren't cheap to replace. I have another one at the basking end, this one is performing as it should. Hope someone can help...as Im close to chucking this kit out the window xx Thanks. |

I'm pretty sure Rach with a dimmer thermostat that your CHE will never be technically off. What the dimmer ones do is raise or lower the wattage depending on temperature set at. A pulse thermostat would turn on and off the CHE depending on temperature set at.

Yes but that light should flicker if its starting to provide the warmth. It should not be blasting out full pelt no matter what setting its on, Daniel, surely.

I try and imagine that if that was a proper light bulb, then that light should be gradually getting brighter and more stronger the closer it gets to the set temp...and beyond it. xx

Then try it with a regular light bulb and see what it's doing

If it's a dimming stat the light on the unit will stay on, if it's a pulse thermostat the light on the unit will flick on and off.
Dimming stats control the flow of electricity like a dimming switch on your house hold lights, rather than switching on and off Last edited by 4chester; 19-01-2014 at 02:47 PM. |

I know but that light should flicker...in terms of what temp (of the room) its picking up and according to the setting. I had the setting on 17. The room temp was about that. Therefore, wouldn't I see that light on the unit, flickering. Then when the room temp drops lower than my setting, that light should get to a constant red.
What I am saying is its constantly red - all the time. It is not switched off (I realise its on a permanent static red then) but that should not be permanent red static setting when the temp is say...20 degrees in the room. Why would it churn out full on heat if its not dropped in the room to the setting?? xx |

I didn't think CHE's had light (that we can see) coming from them?
Sorry, my bad, I see what you mean now. Lol

It is possible it's not working right Rach. How long have you had it? Daniel
