help
sorry everyone but beau ( formarely phoebe) has been wierd for about 3 weeks!
ive had him for 3 yrs and hes never behaved strangely before, inside his enclosure he doesnt move anymore only to get up and adjust him self around the basking lamp - when out side he sometimes wanders around for a while or else goes to sleep in the hedge straight away he hasnt eaten much in 3 weeks but isnt loosing weight? any ideas? should i get a new enclosure perhaps- its 4 ftx2ft and 2 sides glass and 2 sides wood and its on the ground, also hes in my room which is north facing i was thinking of re oranging his enclosure to make it more exciting he is active when i take him out of the tank should i get blood tests done? x rays? im really worried, ps hes growing though |

he goes out side alot but i live in ireland so its not always sunny or warm in summer
any explanation for beaus behaviour- could there be somthing wrong with his liver or other organs- some times he appears normal- not in his enclosure though even though he used to before |

The fact that he is lively when taken out of his tank, should tell you something<g>. Most tortoises
once they have been outside, hate being in again. Where ever you live. I have the same problems here. Mine are out from May to October, with no extra heat. My graecas are out feeding of a late afternoon when temperatures are not hot or sunny. It doesnt have to be hot or sunny outside for them, it helps. Once a tortoise has been warmed up first thing (if you live where temps are not so hot) then they should be ok outside for the rest of the day. Provided temps dont go down below ten.

If you can set up some sort of heat light outside, it would be far better for your tortoise.
Especially if you can make a flap in a doorway, so he/she can come and go as they need to. Greenhouses are useful, as are coldframes. But you have to go with whatever suits you and your tortoise.
