Default D3+ T5 Reptile Lamp 39w (34") help please

Hi everyone, I haven't posted for a while.

Concentrating now on winter set up and looking to extend the vivarium side of my table.

For lighting I've decided to use a D3+ T5 Reptile Lamp 39w (34"). My question is the tube holder... not sure what I need?
Also do I have to buy a ballast box or is that in the tube fitting?

Thank you.

Hi Anita. I remember you from ages ago - welcome back! These Arcadia tubes are great in my opinion. I recommend getting the reflector that Arcadia sell for it as well as the correct controller. The output from the desert plus tube is really good. You need enough height above the tortoise.

Yes for a single lamp you will need this code ACE1U5. This is a 24-39w dingle, waterproof controller.

You will also need ALRS39 which is the reflector .

Or you could use the D3+UVFLOOD and stand which I designed especially for ease of use over a T table.

Always around to help

Yes ACE1U5 is a single 24-39w IP67 unit. So will run either a 24 or 39w lamp

ACE2U5 is a twin 24-39w IP67 unit. This will run just one 24w or 39w lamp, two 24w or two 39w or even one of each.

ACE154 is a single 54watt unit

ACE254 will run just one or two 54w lamps

Then exactly the same using this code as a prefix "ACRE" which is IP67 and with removable lamp leads.

ACR, ACU, ACUP codes are Standard output T8 units. ACR is IP64. ACU is IP67, ACUP is IP67 with removable lamp leads. Then follow with the wattage that you need, so 15w, 18w,30w (does 25-30w) and 36 which does 36.48.40w)

Thank you Ozric and John.
Now I'm getting lazy... and a bit cheeky
What is the ideal height that the T5 tubes need to be placed above the tortoise?

The flood looks very nice John, if that was the only source of lighting what would be the maximum size viv it could be used in?

Thank you
Anita

Anita I shall leave it to John to suggest a suitable height! Ideally you would have a uvb meter to help with installation. The flood lamp that John mentioned is also in my experience good. I made a simple stand from scraps of wood. Depends really what size of area you want to cover. I found the flood best with wee tortoises.

If the flood tube is raised, the area covered is increased and the intensity of uvb declines. There might be a chart on the arcadia site.
