How often would you suggest a 6 - 8 month old leopard is bathed?

My personal belief is that bathing is very unlikely to do any harm at all and might do a lot of good. Especially for young torts. I don't have the water warm, more like tepid. The air is warm and they don't get cold.

I agree with this mine usually do their business in there which keeps their enclosures cleaner. I also find that on the rare days that I don't bath they are soaking themselves in the water dish and using it as a loo

I use a ice cream tub that is quite deep, thinking when i put my tort in she can't see outside and so will quietly sit in instead of trying to break out...but am I right? do you guys do the same? and do you bathe them in the enclosure or somewhere else?
The breeder that sold me the tort suggest the opposite actually - he suggests bathing her in a swallow dish with warm water and put it in the enclosure while bathing thus the tort won't get stress about suddenly being TELEPORTED to another place. What's your opinion? I use water that is around 35C...and I never see her drinks while bathing? is it because the water is too hot for her? |

washing up bowls can be had in Asda etc for £1 and I've seen them in Tesco for 79p at times. BTW, they take water in through their nostrils so you might think they are not drinking but they are. I have one that gets the head under the water and drinks every time and the other sneaks it in through the nostrils. the one that drinks a lot isn't bumpy and the one that doesn't is bumpy. I believe there is something in that Last edited by Alan1; 25-05-2011 at 08:31 AM. |

I use a chinese take away container bottom, that's big enough as Marley is 10 months old. I place it under the UVB so the lamp keeps the water warmish.
Sometimes he will happily wallow for up to half an hour and another day after 5 minutes he's scrambling to get out. Actually I've found with my limited experience when it was colder he would stay in the bath longer. The water I use is tepid, around 25 to 28 deg but no warmer. I have his water dish about 6 inches away from the UVB, so the water tends not to get really cold - very often I catch him sat in the dish legs stretched out enjoying himself
