Appearing thick here but are they called 3 toed because they have 3 on the back feet? I see they have 4 on the front and the turtle on the right looks as though it has 3 on the back unless one is out of sight?

If you have email address, I can forward a good paper on Keeping Terrepene spp. Also recommend a couple of books: 1. The Box Turtle Manual- Phillippe de Vosjoli, & Roger Klingenberg DVM ISBN 1-882770-29-3.
2. North American Box Turtles- A natural history, C Kenneth Dodd jnr, ISBN 0-8061-3294-9
