The liver produces the digestive juices to... digest. You really need a vet.

Bev just had a thought....maybe you could try the PDSA vet on the Antrim Road, he is a reptile vet too ? Will look his number up later, and its not as far out as Jubilees. From what I've heard he is a fantastic vet, really goes out of his way to help animals. You could maybe ring him on Monday and see what he thinks he may be a much better bet than Michael. I hope hes ok xxx

Like Ed has been saying you really need to get the Chaco on Flagyl. The Flagyl will help with the most likely protozoans and the hexamita (green urine).
If your going to do a some force feeding than a tube about 2 1/2 inches long is good. Best to use critical care for the force feeding as it also has bacteria in it to help digest the food. That and mix in some calcium.
Like Ed said a blood test won't show up any protozoans that are in the digestive tract.

Danny

Thank you Danny, I did say to the vet that I thought this tortoise would need Flagyl but he didn't give me any I wish now that I had insisted I really wish now I had insisted I am so grateful for everybodys help and advice as I am worried sick. I did have a cry to myself when the wee pet went over to try and eat some butternut squash, knowing his time could be running out ....
Thanks Clare I will try him he could be no worse

Bev I am so sorry to read your post it must be so upsetting for you.

I would insist that the vet does things your way now - it is an ackward situation but you must pass on your opinion especially as your little one is at risk - Danny and Ed have years of experience.

If he is going to tube him to administer the flagyl then it should make sense to leave the tube in to enable you to feed, hydrate and regenerate the gut flora after the treatment.

I hope you get some help soon Bev x
